A Closer Look at the New Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date Models

Glashütte Original offered us the rare chance to spend a week reviewing and testing them ahead of their official release.
Written by Ash

Earlier this summer, I had the opportunity for a rare sneak peek at two new limited-edition Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date models: the “Plasma” and the “Fusion”. This preview included the rare chance to spend a week reviewing and testing them ahead of their official release. Both reinterpret the classic 1970s square chronograph case, merging period design with bold, contemporary dial colors. While each offers its own distinct personality, the Fusion in vivid lime green ultimately became my favorite.

Seventies Chronograph

Design and Presence

The 40 x 40 mm stainless steel case keeps the distinctive square shape with rounded edges that has long defined the Seventies line. It offers confident wrist presence without feeling oversized. Both dials are lacquered and produced in the brand’s own manufactory, with a velvety matte finish that brings richness and depth to the colors. The black “vinyl” textured subdials, Panorama Date at six o’clock, and Dauphine hands with Super-LumiNova® introduce a subtle vintage reference within an otherwise modern execution.

The Plasma presents a deep, shifting purple inspired by virtual worlds and digital aesthetics. Its hue changes with light and perspective, sometimes leaning toward a muted violet, other times showing a more vibrant tone. The Fusion takes a more energetic approach with a bright lime green that recalls futuristic color palettes often seen in conceptual design. Both colors feel modern but have a staying power that avoids fleeting trendiness.

The Fusion I tested came fitted with the matt black rubber strap, which creates a striking contrast against the vivid lime green dial. The combination makes the color appear even more intense and gives the watch a sport-focused, contemporary edge.

Movement and Specifications

Inside both models is the in-house Calibre 37-02 automatic movement. It features hours, minutes, small seconds, Panorama Date, flyback chronograph, 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, and a power reserve display. Operating at 28,800 A/h (4 Hz), it offers a 70-hour power reserve and water resistance to 10 bar.

The flyback function enables the chronograph to be stopped, reset, and restarted instantly with a single press of the pusher at four o’clock. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement reveals Glashütte’s signature finishing, including the three-quarter plate, skeletonized rotor with Double-G emblem, polished bevels, and blued screws.

Wearing Experience

The matt black rubber strap delivers a sport-oriented look and comfort for daily wear, while the stainless steel bracelet offers a more refined presence. Both have their strengths, but the black strap with the Fusion dial creates an unforgettable contrast that lets the green truly take the spotlight.

Availability

Each model is limited to 100 pieces and available from August 14, 2025, through Glashütte Original boutiques and selected retailers worldwide.
